East Hampton Environmental Coalition

Since 2011, NYLCVEF has served as a technical partner to the East Hampton Environmental Coalition (EHEC) assisting with the production of a common agenda, a candidate questionnaire and environmental issues forum for candidates running for East Hampton Town Board.
 
In 2017, NYLCVEF was proud to partner with the following local organizations: Accabonac Protection Committee, Amagansett Springs Aquifer Protection, Concerned Citizens of Montauk, Defend H2O, Ditch Plains Association, Friends of Georgica Pond Foundation, Group for the East End, International Dark Sky Association – New York Chapter, Long Island, Businesses for Responsible Energy (LIBFRE), Northwest Alliance, Peconic Baykeeper, Perfect Earth Project, Renewable Energy Long Island, Quiet Skies Coalition, Surfrider Foundation: Eastern Long Island Chapter, and Third House Nature Center.

On September 25, members of the EHEC gathered to announce the release of the Green Guide which was covered in the East End Beacon:

On October 12, NYLCVEF and Concerned Citizens of Montauk joined forces with Group for the East End and Renewable Energy Long Island to co-host an Environmental Candidate Forum with the candidates for Supervisor and Town Board:

The East Hampton Star, Sag Harbor Express, and East Hampton Press all covered the event.

On October 20th, 2021, the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) held a candidate forum with the candidates for Huntington Town Supervisor about their stance on a range of environmental and sustainability issues, hosted by the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund. Featuring Ed Smyth, Rebecca Sanin, and Eugene Cook.

On October 5th, 2021, the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) held a candidate forum for New York Council District 32, which is a coastal district and climate frontline community. It centers around Jamaica Bay, Ozone Park, and the western half of the Rockaways and is currently occupied by Council Member Eric Ulrich. This forum was held on zoom in preparation for the November 2nd general election. The forum featured Democratic nominee Felicia Singh and Republican nominee Joann Ariola, and was moderated by NYLCV NYC Chapter Board Member Karen Mintzer. 

We recently co-hosted an event to connect elected officials, partners, and other stakeholders to each other and the Delaware River while elevating the need for funding for the watershed.

Primary Election Day is tomorrow! This year, voters in NYC will have the opportunity to participate in ranked-choice voting. We recently held a webinar on the system, which will be used for the first time in a major citywide election this Primary Day. The event discussed how to fill in your ballot, how your responses are used to elect the winners, how candidates are using the systems while campaigning, and why the system was enacted.

NYC Clean School Bus Coalition We formed a new coalition in October 2020 to fight for zero-emission school buses in New York City, and to ensure that Mayor de Blasio’s commitment to electrification is upheld. Mayor de Blasio’s recent announcement about a commitment to school bus electrification is a monumental step towards our goal. However, there is still more work to be done in order to ensure that this commitment is upheld by the next mayor and that it is codified into law.

We convened New York City Mayoral candidates to share their views on a variety of sustainability issues in a series of taped interviews. We asked questions on issues including air quality, water quality, parks and open space, public transportation, climate adaptation, composting, and green infrastructure. Watch the full video.
